December 10, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 150 raptors today for 27.23 hawks per hour including 5 species.

The highlight of the day was a Peregrine Falcon. Today was also the last HawkWatch day for 2000.

 

 

 

December 9, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 13 raptors today for 8.6 hawks per hour including 5 species.

 

 

December 8, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 115 raptors today for 27.1 hawks per hour including 5 species.

Species seen today were Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, American Kestrels, Northern Harriers and a lone Sharp-shinned Hawk.

 

December 7, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 55 raptors today for 8.66 hawks per hour including 5 species.

 

December 6, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 58 raptors today for 12.8 hawks per hour including 6 species.

December 5, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 264 raptors today for 44.8 hawks per hour including 7 species.

Highlights of the day were a Rough-legged Hawk and a Merlin.

December 4, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 120 raptors today for 20 hawks per hour including 6 species.

Highlight of the day was an adult Peregrine Falcon.

December 3, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 134 raptors today for 22.3 hawks per hour including 7 species.

Highlights of the day were 2 Swainson's Hawks and good looks at the Golden Gate Bridge Peregrine Falcons.

 

December 2, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 202 raptors today for 33.7 hawks per hour.

 

December 1, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 81 raptors today for 13.5 hawks per hour including 6 species.

 

November 30, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 108 raptors today for 18 hawks per hour including 5 species.

 

November 29, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 59 raptors today for 17 hawks per hour including 6 species.

November 28, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 150 raptors today for 25 hawks per hour including 6 species.

Highlight of the day was an adult Peregrine Falcon.

 

November 27, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 77 raptors today for 22 hawks per hour including 4 species.

Highlight of the day was a Bobcat on Rocky Ridge.

November 26, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 215 raptors today for 35.8 hawks per hour including 8 species.

Highlight of the day was a Swainson's Hawk.

 

November 25, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 98 raptors today for 31 hawks per hour including 8 species.

Highlights included a Merlin and an Osprey.

November 24, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 143 raptors today for 23.8 hawks per hour including 6 species.

 

November 23, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 22 raptors today for 6.3 hawks per hour including 2 species.

 

November 22, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 155 raptors today for 25.8 hawks per hour including 9 species.

Sightings of note were an Osprey, 1 Merlin and 2 Red-shouldered Hawks during and otherwise slow day.

 

November 21, 2000 - HawkWatch was rained out today.

November 20, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 255 raptors today for 42.5 hawks per hour including 8 species.

 

November 19, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 329 raptors today for 54.8 hawks per hour including 10 species.

Sightings of note were a Rough-legged and 2 Merlins a White Tailed Kite and an adult Peregrine Falcon. The most common species today was the Red-tailed Hawk..

Also recorded were 12 Sharp-shinned Hawks and 11 Cooper's Hawks.

 

November 18, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 276 raptors today for 46 hawks per hour including 12 species.

Sightings of note were a Swainson's Hawk, an Osprey and a Peregrine Falcon.

November 17, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 263 raptors today for 43.8 hawks per hour including 9 species.

Sightings of note were a Rough-legged Hawk, a Merlin and a very dark morph Red-tailed Hawk.

 

November 16, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 328 raptors today for 54.6 hawks per hour including 9 species.

Sightings of note were a Bald Eagle, a Golden Eagle and 2 Red-shouldered Hawks.

Only 2 Sharp-shinned Hawks and 6 Cooper's Hawks were seen today.

 

November 15, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 164 raptors today for 28.5 hawks per hour including 7 species.

Sightings of note were a Bald Eagle, a Golden Eagle and a Peregrine Falcon. No accipiters were seen today.

 

November 14, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 207 raptors today for 34.5 hawks per hour including 10 species.

Sightings of note were a juvenile Bald Eagle, a Ferruginous Hawk a Rough-legged Hawk and a Peregrine Falcon.

 

November 13, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 114 raptors today for 32.5 hawks per hour including 8 species.

Sightings of note were a juvenile Northern Goshawk and 2 Golden Eagles.

HawkWatch was rained out at 1:00 PM today.

 

November 12, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 194 raptors today for 32 hawks per hour.

Sightings of note were 3 Rough-legged Hawks and a Juvenile Golden Eagle.

November 11, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 248 raptors today for 41.3 hawks per hour including 12 species.

HawkWatch sited a juvenile Golden Eagle and a juvenile Bald Eagle a White-tailed Kite and a Merlin.

 

November 10, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 261 raptors today for 43.5 hawks per hour including 10 species.

HawkWatch sited a juvenile Golden Eagle and a Ferruginous Hawk today.

 

November 9, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 280 raptors today for 46.7 hawks per hour including 11 species.

HawkWatch sited 3 Rough-legged Hawks, a Golden Eagle and 6 Peregrine Falcons. Hawk Hill was very windy with a wind chill factor of 35°.

November 8, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 228 raptors today for 41.5 hawks per hour including 9 species.

HawkWatch sited 1 Merlin but saw at least one Peregrine Falcon for every hour.

 

November 7, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 421 raptors today for 70.2 hawks per hour including 12 species.

The highlight of the day was a Ferruginous Hawk mobbing a Golden Eagle beyond Hill 88.

November 6, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 354 raptors today for 59 hawks per hour.

The highlight of the day was an adult Ferruginous Hawk. Nine Merlins were seen as well as 5 Peregrine Falcons with the two bridge Peregrines buzzing Hawk Hill repeatedly.

 

November 5, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 297 raptors today for 49.5 hawks per hour including 9 species.

Sighting of note was a pair of Merlins chasing a dragon fly. Hawkwatch also recorded 15 American Kestrels.

November 4, 2000 - The Webmaster was out of town and did not collect the data.

November 3, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 428 raptors today for 73.4 hawks per hour including 13 species.

Sightings of note were a Peregrine Falcon, Golden Eagles, a Rough-legged Hawk and an adult Northern Goshawk.

 

November 2, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 339 raptors today for 56.3 hawks per hour including 10 species.

 

November 1, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 171 raptors today for 36 hawks per hour including 12 species.

The highlight of the day was an adult Northern Goshawk. Also seen were Merlins, White-tailed Kites, Adult Cooper's Hawks and Adult Sharp-shinned Hawks.

 

October 31, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 272 raptors today for 45.3 hawks per hour including 11 species..

 

October 30, 2000 - HawkWatch was rained out.

 

October 29, 2000 - HawkWatch HawkWatch sighted 246 raptors today including 10 species.

The highlight of the day was a juvenile Golden Eagle.

 

October 28, 2000 - HawkWatch did not file a report today but it is suspected that they were rained out.

 

October 27, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 304 raptors today, 50.7 raptor sightings per hour including 10 species during a beautiful clear day when the Geysers could be seen.

The highlights of the day were a juvenile Golden Eagle, juvenile and adult Peregrine Falcons as well as 8 Merlins. Also recorded were 111 Red-tailed Hawks, Northern Harriers, American Kestrels and Turkey Vultures.

Also noteworthy, GGRO banders, banded a juvenile Northern Goshawk.

 

October 26, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 24 raptors today, 18 raptor sightings per hour including 6 species but was cut short by fog and rain.

The highlight of the day was a juvenile Bald Eagle.

 

October 25, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 102 raptors today, 30 raptor sightings per hour including 9 species but was cut short by rain.

The highlight of the day was a Rough-legged Hawk.

 

October 24, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 455 raptors today, 75.8 raptor sightings per hour including 10 species.

The highlights of the day were 2 Ferruginous Hawks.

 

October 23, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 358 raptors today, 62.3 raptor sightings per hour including 11 species.

The highlights of the day were an adult Ferruginous Hawk, 2 juvenile Peregrine Falcons, an adult Peregrine Falcon, 6 Merlins and an Osprey. Adult Accipiters comprised about half of the accipiters seen.

 

October 22, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 311 raptors today, 62.4 raptor sightings per hour including 11 species. The wind was gusting up to 40 mph so HawkWatch took a one hour break from the wind.

The highlights of the day were a Ferruginous Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Adult Merlin, Adult Accipiters and a White Tailed Kite.

 

October 21, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 338 raptors today including 11 species.

Sightings of note were Peregrine Falcon, Merlin and a Golden Eagle.

 

October 20, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 51 raptors today, 17 raptor sightings per hour including 8 species. The fog came in at 12:30 and ended watching for the day.

A Peregrine Falcon was seen. The highlight of the day was seeing a juvenile Cooper's Hawk dive on a juvenile Northern Harrier.

 

October 19, 2000 - HawkWatch was canceled due to fog.

October 18, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 139 raptors today, 46.3 raptor sightings per hour including 8 species.

The fog came in at 12:30 and ended watching for the day.

 

October 17, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 266 raptors today, 44.3 raptor sightings per hour including 11 species.

Species of note were Golden Eagle and White-tailed Kite.

 

October 16, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 281 raptors today, 48 raptor sightings per hour including 10 species.

Species of note were Peregrine Falcon and White-tailed Kite..

 

October 15, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 252 raptors today, 45.8 raptor sightings per hour.

 

October 14, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 53 raptors today, 15.6 raptor sightings per hour and 6 species.

Special sighting for the day was a Peregrine Falcon. HawkWatch was on Hawk Hill until 1:00 PM when the fog came in.

 

October 13, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 419 raptors today, 69.8 raptor sightings per hour.

Special sightings for the day was a Merlin.

 

October 12, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 403 raptors today, 67.1 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

Special sightings for the day were a Merlin, a Peregrine Falcon and after HawkWatch ended, Golden Eagles.

 

October 11, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 189 raptors today, 31.5 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

A Ferruginous Hawk was seen as well as some Merlins.

 

October 10, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 277 raptors today, 55.4 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species all between rain drops.

Also three Peregrine Falcons were seen.

October 9, 2000 - HawkWatch was rained out today.

October 8, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 70 raptors today, 20 raptor sightings per hour, and 7 species.

 

October 7, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 378 raptors today, 68 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

 

October 6, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 170 raptors today, 44.35 raptor sightings per hour, and 10 species.

Species of note were Broad-winged Hawk, Peregrine Falcon and a brief look at a Merlin.

 

October 5, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 256 raptors today, 42.7 raptor sightings per hour, and 9 species.

Species of note were Peregrine Falcons and a Brief look at a Merlin.

 

October 4, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 213 raptors today, 35 raptor sightings per hour, and 8 species.

 

October 3, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 313 raptors today, 55.2 raptor sightings per hour, and 9 species.

 

October 2, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 309 raptors today, 88.3 raptor sightings per hour, and 9 species. Fog kept the HawkWatch off of Hawk Hill until noon.

Highlights of the day were adult Cooper's Hawks and quite a show by two Peregrine Falcons.

 

October 1, 2000 - HawkWatch was called off due to fog.

 

September 30, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 652 raptors today, 109 raptor sightings per hour, and 10 species.

Highlights of the day were a Broad-winged Hawks and Merlins.

 

September 29, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 305 raptors today, 101.7 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

Highlights of the day were a Ferruginous Hawk and 2 adult Broad-winged Hawks. Also seen were Peregrine Falcon, Merlins, American Kestrels, Red-tailed Hawks, Cooper's Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Osprey and Turkey Vultures.

 

September 28, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 187 raptors today, 31.1 raptor sightings per hour, and 10 species.

The first Bald Eagle of the season was seen today.

 

 

September 27, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 269 raptors today, 44 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

The first Golden Eagle of the season was seen today.

 

September 26, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 473 raptors today, 78 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

Some of the species seen were Peregrine Falcon, Broad-winged Hawk and Red-shouldered Hawk.

September 25, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 437 raptors today, 72.8 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

 

September 24, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 646 raptors today, 107.7 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

 

September 23, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 676 raptors today, 113 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

 

September 22, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 214 raptors today, 36.5 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

 

September 21, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 181 raptors today, 36 raptor sightings per hour, and 7 species.

 

 

September 20, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 105 raptors today, 70 raptor sightings per hour, and 5 species.

HawkWatch only stayed up on the hill for about an hour due to fog.

 

September 19, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 722 raptors today, 120.3 raptor sightings per hour, and 8 species.

 

September 18, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 674 raptors today, 112.3 raptor sightings per hour, and 12 species.

The day was warm (80°F), no clouds with an afternoon WNW wind. Hawkwatch recorded 200 Red-tailed Hawks, one Ferruginous Hawk, one Broad-winged Hawk and one Merlin.

 

September 17, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 755 raptors today, 125.8 raptor sightings per hour, and 11 species.

The day was hot with only a bit of wind and many of the raptors were flying high.

 

September 16, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 325 raptors today, 144 raptor sightings per hour, and 10 species.

The day started foggy and HawkWatch didn't start until after 1:00 pm and watched for only 2 hours and 15 minutes. The accipiter gate is now open!  90 Sharp-shinned hawk sightings were recorded and 68 Cooper's Hawks as well. Also seen were two Ferruginous Hawks and two Merlins.

 

September 15, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 6 raptors today, 24 raptor sightings per hour, and 2 species.

The day was foggy and HawkWatch had only about 15 minutes of clear viewing. Species seen were Red-tailed Hawks and Sharp-shinned Hawks.

 

September 14, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 151 raptors today, 51.8 an hour, at 7 species. The day started foggy and ended foggy with a brief clear period in between.

 

September 13, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 142 raptors today, 23.5 an hour, at 8 species.

The first Ferruginous Hawk of the season was seen today.

September 12, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 287 raptors today, 59.7 an hour, at 7 species.

Hawk Hill weather was hot then cold then hot then cold...

 

September 11, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 142 raptors today, 35.5 an hour, at 8 species.

Hawkwatch had to leave at 2 pm today as the fog came in and engulfed them.

 

September 10, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 230 raptors today, 38.3 hawks per hour with 6 species sighted.

 

September 9, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 120 raptors today, 24 hawks per hour with 6 species sighted.

Even though the fog persisted much of the day, Hawkwatch saw the first Merlin of the season today.

The banding demonstration featured male and female Sharp-shinned Hawks.

 

September 8, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 163 raptors today, 32.6 hawks per hour with 7 species sighted.

Hawk Hill was foggy with some sun, windy and cold. The most common species seen were Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks.

 

September 7, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 358 raptors today, 59.5 hawks per hour with 9 species sighted.

Hawk Hill was very warm today. Nine Red-shouldered Hawks were counted as well as 2 White-tailed Kites.

 

September 6, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 327 raptors today, 54 hawks per hour with 8 species sighted.

The most common hawks sighted were Red-tailed Hawks and Cooper's Hawks.

 

September 5, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 214 raptors today, 38.9 hawks per hour, 8 species.

Species of note were red-shouldered hawks, northern harriers and osprey.

 

September 4, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 255 raptors today, 43 hawks per hour, 9 species.

HawkWatch saw Osprey, American Kestrels, Red-shouldered Hawks and an Peregrine Falcon today.

 

September 3, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 247 raptors today, 42.8 hawks per hour, 10 species.

HawkWatch saw 13 Osprey today.

 

September 2, 2000 - HawkWatch sighted 222 raptors, 32 hawks per hour and saw 8 species.

Species of note were Peregrine Falcons, Osprey and Northern Harriers. The most commonly sighted birds were Turkey Vultures and Red-tailed Hawks.

 

September 1, 2000 - Today HawkWatch was rained out.

August 31, 2000 - Today HawkWatch counted 78 hawks, 25 hawks per hour and saw 5 species.

It was a mostly foggy day. Before going up to Hawk Hill HawkWatch spotted a Peregrine Falcon while birding near Rodeo Lagoon.

 

August 30, 2000 - Today HawkWatch counted 25 hawks total, 7.1 hawks per hour and 3 species.

HawkWatch quit at 1:30 today due to fog.

 

August 29, 2000 - Today HawkWatch counted 180 hawks total, 32.7 hawks per hour and 6 species in a cold wind with some rain.

A Peregrine Falcon was seen today.

August 28, 2000 - Today HawkWatch counted 130 total, 21.5 hawks per hour and 7 species in a cold wind.

August 25, 2000 - HawkWatch had 103 sightings, 20.8 Hawks per hour and saw 8 species.

Species of note were a Prairie Falcon and Osprey as well as an adult Cooper's Hawk that was molting primaries on each wing and two tail feathers.

August 17, 2000 - The weather was sunny but hazy. There were 153 raptor sightings today for 28.8 hawks per hour.  Seven species were seen: Turkey Vulture, Northern Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Osprey, Red-shouldered Hawk and Red-tailed Hawk.

August 16, 2000 - The weather was sunny and clear with very little wind till 11:00 AM. There were 160 raptor sightings today for 26.7 hawks per hour.  Species of note were a Northern Harrier chasing a Cooper's Hawk and an Osprey with a fish in its talons.

August 15, 2000 - The weather was sunny and clear. There were 146 raptor sightings today for 24.3 hawks per hour.  Species of note were Female American Kestrels, White-tailed Kites and adult male Northern Harrier.

August 14, 2000 - Today was the opening day for HawkWatch 2000. The weather was clear with good views all around. The wind was gentle form the west and north west. There were 130 raptor sightings today for 21.6 hawks per hour. Seven species were seen: Cooper's Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Northern Harrier, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk and Turkey Vulture.

August 10, 2000 - Today was a warm up day for the Thursday II team. The Weather on Hawk Hill was bright and breezy. We saw six species, Turkey Vultures, red-tailed hawks, Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, American kestrels and three osprey, one that had a fish.
