The GGRO is proud to be supported by:

| The GGRO has three paid staff: a Director (Allen Fish), a Research Director (Buzz Hull), and a Project Coordinator (Jill Harley). All three maintain and often exceed a normal office schedule throughout the year, with some field time for good behavior. |

Allen Fish was hired as the GGRO's first director in 1985. With a background in evolution and ecology, and avian biology and conservation from UC Davis, Allen has a particular interest in bird population responses to urban development, climate change, and other human pressures. Allen has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Raptor Research, was Chair of the Hawk Migration Association of North America’s Research Committee for a half-decade, and has taught classes and led tours for the California Academy of Sciences. Since 2003, he has taught an upper-division Raptor Biology class at the University of California at Davis. In 2003, HMANA awarded him the Maurice Braun Award for contributions to hawk migration study & conservation. At GGRO, Allen is the lead staff contact for GGRO’s Hawkwatch Program, and for hawk nesting studies in the Presidio and Berkeley. He also handles fund-raising, budgeting, publishing, image collections, docents, and media/public relations. Allen has ultimate supervisory responsibility for the GGRO. Allen makes his own summer altitudinal migration between his home in Berkeley and the Sierra Nevada with his wife and two kids.

Buzz Hull became the GGRO’s first Research Director in 1991 after helping the GGRO Banding Program get its feet on the ground as a volunteer for seven years. A graduate of Oberlin College, Buzz was for many years a research scientist at Letterman Army Medical Center. Buzz now oversees the GGRO's entire research agenda. He is the lead staff contact for GGRO’s Banding and Telemetry programs, for data management, computer issues, animal care, RoboLure development, management of GGRO’s offices, and the many permits we are required to have. Buzz is a founding member of the North American Banding Council, and the author of the NABC’s Raptor Banding Manual.

GGRO Interns
Since 1986, GGRO has had autumn help from more than 60 seasonal Research Interns (up to four per season). Interns are generally recent college grads who work for GGRO from July through December to facilitate the smooth functioning of the autumn field season. Interns are given compensation for living expenses, and a coast-side room in the Marin Headlands. |
